'No Sense In Being Hungry, She Thought' reprinted in Russia's Darker Magazine

Great to have a second story in the Russian Darker Magazine, edited by Artem Ageev. This time it's No Sense In Being Hungry, She Thought. This story originally appeared in Peeping Tom in 1996 and is included in my collection Their Cramped Dark World and Other Tales.

After Nightfall - Russian version

This Russian anthology from 1992 arrived in the post today. It contains a translation of my story After Nightfall. The black and white illustration appears to be of this story - sort of...

Other writers in the book include Richard Matheson and Ramsey Campbell. Brought out not long after the fall of Communism, it's an odd little hard cover book.

After Nightfall published in Russia 1992 - Surprise

I noticed that I've been having quite a few hits on this blog recently from Russia and, in particular, the Ukraine. Checking into this, one of the most common links was to a Russian website. Surprisingly, doing a bit of a search on it, I discovered that one of my earliest stories, After Nightfall, was published in a hardback anthology there in 1992. The stories in Tayaschiysya Horror 2 (Таящийся ужас 2) appear to have all been translated by Vladimir Vladimirova. If the details are correct the book had quite a large circulation - 100,000 copies!

It's strange what a bit of knocking about the internet can turn up.

The Lurkers in the Abyss - Midnight House

There has been a long delay in this collection being published. Unfortunately, John Pelan, who is the man behind Midnight House, has had a tough time for the past couple of years. However, I received an email from him today which confirms that publication of my collection will be imminent in the next few months or so.

I know from the quality of those Midnight House books I already have in my collection, that the wait will be more than worth it when Lurkers in the Abyss finally appears. The quality of these books is second to none.

Curiously, one of the stories from that collection, After Nightfall, will be published in The Zombie Archives, edited by Otto Penzler for Random House, while Out of Corruption continually gets republished in Steve Jones's Mammoth Book of Zombies, which has appeared under several variations of that title in the UK, the US, Italy and now Russia! Even the title story will appear in Cemetery Dance's long-awaited Century's Best Horror Fiction sometime soon.

Out of Corruption published in Russia

One of the biggest surprises I got over the weekend at FantasyCon was Steve Jones coming over to me with a hardbound book called Zombi, (ЗОМБИ) which is a Russian version of The Mammoth Book of Zombies, which contains my novella Out of Corruption (Из Тлена).

This is a beautiful book, with gilt patterning on the cover and spine, and is without a doubt the most impressive version of that collection yet.

One of the best things about Steve is the fact that he does his very best to make sure that every author in his anthologies gets a copy of every version published anywhere in the world. For which, especially on this occasion, I am very grateful.
