John Carter on Mars - the Movie

When I was in my early teens New English Library republished all the Edgar Rice Burroughs John Carter novels (plus a load of Tarzans and the Venus books). I read them avidly.

Now John Carter is hitting the big screen and, from this early trailer, things are looking quite good. Hope so, anyway. Fingers crossed as usual, though.

  1. OH MAN! I want to see that! I read about four of the John Carter books and loved them to bits. Never much envisioned him looking like a barbarian though-- but I'll take it!

  2. To paraphrase Bradbury I was John Carter in the heady childhood days. Won't be missing this.

  3. Hi Benjamin - no, I never took him to look like a barbarian, but I can live with that too. Every action hero these days has to have bulging muscles. Gone are the days of Kirk Douglas and Charlton Heston.

I loved the covers that NEL used to have for the John Carter series, though I don't suppose they would ever find an actor with that kind of physique - nor, I suppose, would it look good on screen.

I won't be missing this either, Craig. Just hope it lives up to expectations!
