Ossani the Healer

I have now written thirteen stories in which my secret sorcerer Ossani the Healer appears, either as the main character or in a secondary role.

He first crops up at the tail end of "The Storyteller of Koss" (Summer of Sci-Fi & Fantasy Volume 1) where he is described as: "A tall, cadaverous man, Ossani wore pebble-like lenses over his eyes mounted on a complex construction of wires and leather strapped around the dome of his shaven head."

He first appears as a main character in "Ossani the Healer and the Beautiful Homunculus", where he shares honours with Welgar (Welgar the Cursed - Tule Fog Press).

His other main appearances are in "The Moneylender of Oriaska" and "Ossani's Apprentice" (Swords & Heroes Quarterly, Spring 2026) and "Ossani's Escape" (Cirsova, Fall, 2026).

He also appears in "From the Ashes", along with Welgar again. (Due to be published soon in Savage Realms Monthly - details to follow).

He is a secondary if important character in "Emerging from the Twilit Realms" (Welgar the Cursed - Tule Fog Press)

He is a minor if pivotal character in "The Troupe" (Swords & Sorceries: Tales of Heroic Fantasy Volume 8)

The following tales have yet to be published: "Ezmiyel the Beggar", "Masks of Deception", "Narcolopsia", and "The Sorcerer's Casket".

One day maybe I will collect all these tales into one volume, though I have not given up writing about Ossani yet and there may well be further exploits.

A new swords and sorcery story finished: From the Ashes

I am in a writing fit at the moment which has resulted in me completing another swords and sorcery story, one I started several months ago. This is a 6,800 word Welgar story, "From the Ashes", which also reintroduces two of my other recurring characters, Ossani the Healer and his apprentice Arrenya. It also includes a dog.

Ossani the Healer - two new tales to be published soon plus a collection

Another of my continuing characters, the secretive sorcerer Ossani the Healer, who is sometimes the main character in my stories and at others just a secondary one, may have his own collection next year. Negotiations are underway.

More to be revealed later - probably much later.

In the meantime two of his stories will appear in Swords & Heroes Quarterly Volume 2: The Moneylender of Oriaska and Ossani's Apprentice, in which I introduce my first female main character in a sword and sorcery tale.

My S&S Story The Dark Priestdom is in the latest issue of Savage Realms Monthly

I am pleased my 10,000 word sword and sorcery story The Dark Priestdom is available now in the latest issue of Savage Realms Monthly (issue No 19, March 2023).

This story features two ongoing characters: Nadrain the Storyteller and Welgar the Northerner.

Nadrain first appeared in Summer of Sci-Fi & Fantasy, edited by Dustin Bilyk in 2022 in The Storyteller of Koss

Welgar's first appearance is as one of the two main characters in Ossani the Healer and the Beautiful Homunculus, which is still out awaiting acceptance for publication. There is also a sequel to The Dark Priestdom. Welgar the Cursed will be published this May in Swords & Heroes, edited by Lyndon Perry.

A fourth Welgar story, Mask of a Mad God, is currently out with a potential publisher. More about this and Ossani the Healer and the Beautiful Homunculus when either or both are accepted for publication.

My third ongoing character is Ossani the Healer, who made his first appearance in The Storyteller of Koss. Besides  Ossani the Healer and the Beautiful Homunculus, he is the main character in Ossani's Slaves, which is another recent tale still out awaiting acceptance for publication.

More stories of all three characters and their occasional crossovers are planned for the future.

New story finished: Ossani's Slaves

After having just had two stories accepted for publication, last night I finished another: Ossani's Slaves, which is yet another involving my secretive sorcerer, Ossani the Healer, who first appeared at the end of The Storyteller of Koss, before going on to become one of the two main characters in Ossani the Healer and the Beautiful Homunculus, alongside Welgar the Northerner.
